It’s already been 4 months since the original Postage release and it’s about time it had some improvements and fixes. Since it was made Tumblr have also released some new features for themes and Postage desperately needed to support them.
Recode, blah…
The first thing to do was recode some of the sections to make the code lighter. Originally it had issues with the actual size of the code once saved, this was preventing anyone from adding to Postage to customise it for their blog. It’s dropped from 64kb to 56kb, this should leave enough room for any adjustments you want to add.
Placement, Placement, Placement!
I had a little rearrangement with the header items. You will no longer find portraits or the search box in the header, they are now in the sidebar. This has been done to allow for much larger titles and descriptions.
Pages
To accommodate the recent Tumblr features called “Pages” I’ve incorporated a navigation area just for them.
Icons: Vital Vector
Last time round the icons were a little square and boring. This time I’ve went for an awesome icon pack called Vital Vector by PixelResort.
Selfless Promotion
You may have noticed the “Install Theme” button that is on Postage, this is to promote the theme and spread it’s joy. This has been changed to Peter Vidani’s image and big thanks to him for allowing me to use it!

Urgh, Formatting
Some of the text in various post types such as the text that appears in lists was rather ugly. Hopefully the fresher look will please you all.
DailyBooth
It was an interesting addition to the last version however it wasn’t a winner. A couple of people used it but it wasn’t really worth the code space.
StreamPad
This has been removed from the base code however it doesn’t mean you can’t add it yourself. Simply follow the instructions on their website.
Disqus Widgets
These were fun but didn’t seem to be popular, so they’re gone. They allowed you to display large amounts of charted data about your comments and commentators.
Single Column
I don’t know how many people actually knew of this feature but in the old version you could set the entire design to go to a single column instead of two. Removed because it wasn’t used by anyone I know of.
Images
All images are now CSS3’d. They have been given some nice rounded corners as well as a lovely shadow. If you use something like Internet Explorer expect to not get this because your browser sucks.
Silly Settings
I went a little mad with the settings you could change on the last version. For instance I allowed you to set whether or not people should be able to search your blog. All the settings that seemed a little worthless have been removed.
Expect your blog to be updated to the new theme as soon as it has been approved by Tumblr. If you have any questions, ideas or dislike the changes be sure to send an email to postage@gre.gs.
Thank you, good night, much love!
Just a quick post…
I’m about to start recoding and improving the whole Postage theme, both visually and feature-ly. This is the time to submit any features or ideas you would like implemented into the next release of the theme.
Send them all to postage@gre.gs
